Three things: a tiny base (around 5 MB for a minimal install), musl libc instead of glibc, and BusyBox replacing GNU coreutils. The result is one of the smallest, fastest-booting Linux distros, popular as the base for Docker images, embedded systems, and unikernels.
What is musl libc and does it matter?
musl is a small, fast, MIT-licensed C library used in place of glibc. Most software builds against musl with no changes; some prebuilt binaries (e.g. some Node.js native modules, some Java JDKs, certain proprietary tools) target glibc only and need a musl-compatible build. Alpine has clear docs on the differences.
Which Alpine versions do you offer?

Can I run Docker on Alpine?

What is apk and how does it compare to apt / dnf?
apk is Alpine's native package manager, simple, fast, and small. Run `apk add nginx postgresql` like you would `apt install`. The entire apk database is a few MB. Native repos cover the basics; community and edge repos extend coverage to most server software.
How fast does Alpine provision and boot?
