What is a KVM VPS?
KVM (Kernel-based Virtual Machine) is the Linux kernel's built-in hypervisor. A KVM VPS gives every customer their own virtual machine with its own kernel, its own memory, and direct hardware virtualization through Intel VT-x or AMD-V. That's different from OpenVZ or LXC, which share the host kernel with every neighbor on the box.
How is KVM different from OpenVZ?
KVM is full virtualization, your VPS has its own kernel, its own /dev tree, and behaves like a real machine. OpenVZ is OS-level containerization, every container shares the host kernel, can't run a different kernel version, and is subject to whatever the host operator decides about kernel modules. With KVM you can install custom kernels, run TUN/TAP, mount NFS, run Docker with its real cgroups, and use any kernel feature your distro supports.
Does Cloudzy ever use OpenVZ?
No. Every Cloudzy VPS runs on KVM. We don't sell OpenVZ, LXC, or container-based VPS plans, regardless of price tier. Even the $2.48/month 512 MB plan is a real KVM VM with its own kernel.
What does 'no overcommit' mean?
RAM and CPU you pay for are reserved for your VM, not oversold across every guest on the host. We don't pack 30 customers onto a 16-core box and bet none of them will use what they bought. The trade-off: prices are slightly higher than overcommit-heavy hosts, but performance is consistent and predictable.
Can I install a custom kernel?
Yes. Boot into the rescue console, edit /etc/default/grub, install the kernel package, run update-grub, and reboot. The hypervisor doesn't pin you to one kernel version. KVM gives you the same flexibility as a bare-metal box. Same goes for kernel modules, sysctl tweaks, and IP stack tuning.
Does Docker / Kubernetes / WireGuard work?
Yes, all of them. KVM exposes real cgroups, real network namespaces, real TUN/TAP, and the full kernel module surface. Docker runs natively. k3s, microk8s, and full Kubernetes all work. WireGuard, OpenVPN, IPsec, and any other VPN protocol install cleanly with apt or yum.
How fast is provisioning?
