Does Cloudzy offer NixOS as a template?
NixOS can be installed via our custom ISO upload feature. Upload the latest NixOS minimal ISO, boot from it, and run the NixOS installer. From there, you manage the system entirely through configuration.nix.

How much RAM does NixOS need?
NixOS itself is lightweight, a minimal headless system runs in 512 MB. However, nixos-rebuild and Nix builds consume RAM proportional to what you're building. For comfortable use with regular rebuilds, 2-4 GB is a good starting point.

Can I use Nix flakes?
Yes. Enable experimental flakes in your configuration.nix (nix.settings.experimental-features = ["nix-command" "flakes"]) and use flake-based configurations. Full root access means no restrictions on Nix features.

How do rollbacks work?
Every nixos-rebuild switch creates a new generation. Boot into any previous generation from the bootloader or run nixos-rebuild switch --rollback. The Nix store keeps all previous versions until you garbage-collect them.

Can I manage my NixOS VPS with deploy-rs or NixOps?
Yes. Both deploy-rs and NixOps can push NixOS configurations to your Cloudzy VPS over SSH. Define the target in your flake, run the deploy command, and your cloud server updates atomically.

Is the Nix binary cache available?
Yes. Your VPS has full internet access, so cache.nixos.org and any custom binary caches you configure are reachable. This speeds up builds significantly since most packages download pre-built binaries.

Can I run containers on NixOS?
Yes. NixOS supports Docker, Podman, and native NixOS containers (systemd-nspawn). Define container services declaratively in your configuration.nix just like any other service.

What about disk space for the Nix store?
The Nix store grows as you install packages and keep generations. Run nix-collect-garbage regularly to reclaim space. NVMe plans from 20 GB to 1.5 TB give you plenty of room, but monitor /nix/store usage on smaller plans.
