What is ownCloud?
ownCloud is the open-source file sync and share platform that started the self-hosted cloud movement in 2010. It's the predecessor to Nextcloud and remains a popular pick for organizations that prefer ownCloud's enterprise focus, WebDAV-first architecture, and Infinite Scale (oCIS) Go-based rewrite. Self-hosted, with no per-user subscription fee on the community edition.

Is ownCloud free?
ownCloud Community edition is free and AGPL-licensed. ownCloud Server (PHP) and ownCloud Infinite Scale (Go) both run on a Cloudzy VPS. Enterprise licenses with premium support are available directly from ownCloud GmbH if you need them, but the community edition is fully featured for most teams.

ownCloud or Nextcloud, which should I pick?
If you want a Go-based, microservice architecture and an enterprise-leaning roadmap, ownCloud Infinite Scale is the modern path. If you want a wider community and a long list of bundled apps (Talk, Office, Mail, etc.), Nextcloud is more popular. Both run great on a Cloudzy VPS.

How much storage do I get?
Plans start at 20 GB NVMe and scale to 1.5 TB on the 64 GB tier. ownCloud also supports any S3-compatible storage as primary backend, so you can keep cold files on cheap object storage and only put the metadata DB on NVMe.

Will ownCloud sync clients work?
Yes. ownCloud ships native sync clients for macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS, and Android, all of which speak WebDAV against your VPS. Setup takes a domain, an HTTPS cert, and a username, under 5 minutes per device.

Can I install ownCloud myself?
Yes. Both ownCloud Server (PHP + Apache + MariaDB) and ownCloud Infinite Scale (single Go binary) ship Docker images. The Go binary is especially fast, one container, one config file, no database setup. We provide stock Ubuntu images on every plan.
