What is Yacht?

Yacht is an open-source web UI for managing Docker containers, a lightweight alternative to Portainer. It gives you a clean dashboard for running compose templates, viewing logs, exec'ing into containers, and monitoring stats, all without writing docker commands by hand.

How does Yacht compare to Portainer?

Yacht is lighter, opinionated toward template-driven deploys, and fully open-source under MIT. Portainer Community is more featureful but has a paid tier with restrictions. Pick Yacht if you want a clean UI for compose templates and don't need RBAC; pick Portainer if you need enterprise features.

How much RAM does Yacht need?

Yacht itself runs on 256 MB, it's a tiny Python app. The containers it manages are what consume RAM. A 1-2 GB VPS comfortably runs Yacht plus 5-10 small services. Heavy stacks (databases, media servers) push you toward 4 GB+ or higher.

Can I run my existing Docker Compose files?

Yes. Yacht supports importing compose files directly, plus its own JSON template format that adds a guided form for env vars and volumes. You can keep your existing docker-compose.yml files in git and import or paste them into Yacht for visual management.

How fast does it provision?

Does Yacht handle SSL?

Can I expose containers publicly?
