What is a Shadowsocks VPS?
A Shadowsocks VPS is a cloud server you control where you run Shadowsocks, a lightweight, encrypted SOCKS5 proxy originally built for environments where regular VPNs are blocked or throttled. With root access on Cloudzy, you SSH in, install shadowsocks-libev (or Outline server, which is built on top of Shadowsocks), and you have your own private encrypted proxy in a few minutes. Configuration is one URI you scan as a QR code, done.
Shadowsocks vs WireGuard or OpenVPN, when to pick which?
Pick Shadowsocks when you want a SOCKS5-style application proxy that's lightweight on the wire, easy to configure per-app, and historically resilient on networks that block standard VPN protocols. Pick WireGuard or OpenVPN when you want a system-wide tunnel that captures all traffic. Many users run Shadowsocks alongside WireGuard for different use cases.
Which Shadowsocks implementation should I install?
shadowsocks-libev is the most-deployed implementation, in every distro's package manager. Outline is Jigsaw's friendly fork that bundles a server and clean clients with a built-in management UI. xray-core supports the Shadowsocks-2022 protocol with newer ciphers. Pick libev for simple use, Outline if you want the easy management UI.
What ports does Shadowsocks need?
Just one TCP port and optionally one UDP port, both of your choice. Most setups expose the same port number for both. Common picks: 8388, 443, or anything else you want. There's no standard 'must-have' port like OpenVPN's 1194.
Which clients can connect?
On desktop: Shadowsocks-NG (macOS), Shadowsocks for Windows, Clash, Qv2ray. On Android: Shadowsocks Android, NekoBox, V2RayNG. On iOS: Shadowrocket, Outline. The configuration is shared as ss:// URI which all clients can scan as a QR code or import from clipboard.

We don't log VPN/proxy traffic itself, what flows through is your business. Standard infrastructure logs (login attempts to the VPS, billing) exist as you'd expect from any cloud provider. Shadowsocks server logs are minimal by default and you can disable them entirely.
