What is RustDesk?
RustDesk is an open-source remote desktop application, a self-hosted alternative to TeamViewer and AnyDesk. The client connects through a relay server you run, so your screen-sharing traffic never touches a third-party SaaS. Both the clients and the server are AGPL-licensed and free.

Do I need a server for RustDesk to work?
Technically no. RustDesk's public servers exist as a default. But if you self-host the relay (hbbs) and ID server (hbbr) on a VPS you control, your sessions stop transiting RustDesk's infrastructure. That's the point: privacy, control, and no rate limits.

How much VPS do I need for RustDesk relay?
RustDesk's relay is very lightweight, the 1 GB or 2 GB plan handles dozens of concurrent connections comfortably. Bandwidth (40 Gbps available) matters more than CPU. For a small IT shop with 50 endpoints, the 4 GB plan is plenty of headroom.

Is RustDesk encrypted?
Yes. RustDesk uses end-to-end encryption with NaCl, the relay only forwards encrypted bytes and cannot decrypt session contents. Even with a self-hosted relay, your screen, keystrokes, and files stay readable only to the two endpoints.

Can I install RustDesk relay myself?
Yes. The official RustDesk server bundle ships hbbs (ID server) and hbbr (relay) as Docker images and Linux binaries. The official install script gets you live in 5 minutes. We provide a stock Ubuntu image on every plan.

Will I need a domain or just an IP?
An IP works. The dedicated IPv4 included on every Cloudzy VPS is enough. A domain helps if your IP changes, but Cloudzy IPs are sticky to the instance, so most users just hand out the IP and a public key to their devices.
